Hello

My name is Maureen Holtsbaum

I'm a self-taught driftwood artist located in Chilliwack, BC.  Born and raised on the west coast of British Columbia, I grew up with the ocean at my feet.  My father instilled in me an admiration for the strength and beauty to be found in nature and the elements.  My mother, a self-taught painter, taught me to see the lines, shapes and colours in everything around me.

Now at 58 years young and retired from the workplace grind, I'm discovering my own unique talent of bringing life and beauty to what others simply look at as debris.  After experimenting with different mediums, I formed Sea Drift Décor in 2023 and now mostly concentrate on creating what I refer to a functional art.   My unique, handcrafted electric lamps are made primarily of ocean driftwood sourced locally in Tsawwassen and White Rock.  As much as possible, the pieces are kept in their natural shape - as Mother Nature carved.

Each lamp is one-of-kind – just as each piece of driftwood is one-of-a-kind.  The driftwood is hand cleaned, sanded and sealed with wood stain, matching lamp shades and cords are hand selected to best complement each piece and a bulb is always included in the final product.

Feel free to wander through my gallery of past pieces or shop what's currently available.   A full schedule of upcoming markets and current retail locations is available on this site.  I hope my art brings you as much joy as it bring me.
